Square One Drive - “A Flush Street”

The extension of Square One Drive from Duke of York Boulevard to Living Arts Drive will be a two-way “flush street” to provide the safest walkable and drivable environment for students, faculty, and the general public. As a flush street, it will have curbless edges giving a continuous flush surface from building to building and through the parkland space.

Additionally, this flush street will benefit all users, as well as provide flexible space for college needs such as loading for the buildings.

As part of the Class Environmental Assessment study, alternate designs and a preferred flush street design for Square One Drive, including a roundabout feature at Square One Drive and Duke of York Boulevard, were presented at a Public Information Centre (PIC) on May 13, 2010. The PIC provided residents and stakeholders an opportunity to learn about the study results and participate in the planning and decision-making process for extending Square One Drive and its design character.

Please see the display material for detailed information. The images on this page show highlights of the design characters considered for Square One Drive.

The Class Environmental Assessment study concluded in September, 2010. Construction of the extension on Square One Drive will start later this fall. The detailed design for the roundabout piece has already commenced, and the construction of the roundabout piece will kick off in Spring 2011.
