VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

INTERNS AND VOLUNTEERS
The Internship and Volunteer program at The Art Gallery of Mississauga provides exposure to the inner workings of a public art gallery institution, promoting an awareness of curatorial and gallery careers through professional experiences not typically available through an academic setting. The goal of the experience is to create a multi-layered learning experience for the student through hands-on learning experiences.

Past Volunteers and Interns have moved on to work in museums, commercial galleries as well as have gained important experience for successful Graduate School Masters of Art (M.A.), and Master of Fine Art (M.F.A).as well as Masters of Business Administration applications as well as Associate and Minor Degree interests among others.
The Art Gallery of Mississagua is seeking enthusiastic Undergraduates, Graduate students for Intern and Volunteer positions.

AGM INTERNSHIPS
The experience is fast paced and requires thinking on your feet! Learn about our mission, gain practical and theoretical training, contemplate the role of a public gallery and the function of art, work closely with the Director, Operations Manager and Curator in the planning of exhibitions, writing and editing of texts and publications, Database management, inventory and work with the permanent collection, as well as working with artists. Become involved in your regional artist community: attend lecture series, curator and artists talks and assist with public education forums by assisting with other outreach events.

The Internship will allow the student to relate theory to practice and to interact with professionals. The internship program is a great way to gain practical experience in your field of interest. Internship projects are based on current gallery needs. The Internship is for Course Credit with a University, or with a Co-Op Education Program.

Desirables
Experience with or interest in marketing, public relations and event planning. Also desirable are flexibility, strong multi-tasking, organizational and time management skills, excellent communication, administrative and customer service talents. It is suggested that a passion for the arts, along with the above abilities, creates strong team members in the gallery. Candidates with PC / Mac and PhotoShop and other digital application knowledge are also an asset.
