The evolution of our curatorial vision is ongoing, however the anticipated results, over the next five years, aims to establish the Gallery as a cultural leader branded by innovation and original programming.

The AGM is over 3,000 square feet divided into four gallery spaces. The Main and Community galleries are the largest. The Resource Room and Project Space galleries are smaller adjacent spaces. The Gallery and washroom facilities are wheelchair accessible.

The development of new exhibition initiatives are to create a platform of social exchange. The gallery is a site of community interaction. The AGM is interested to lead, conduct and forge synthesizing elements from each exhibition with education and outreach. This goal illustrates an animated commitment to cultural vitality and dialogue which is experienced when the public gallery is understood as a key site for community building.

OUR MISSION

"The Mission of the Art Gallery of Mississauga is to promote awareness and the appreciation of the visual arts through the operation, development and growth of a public, not-for-profit art gallery."

The Art Gallery was established in 1987 by a volunteer Board of Directors appointed by City Council and incorporated as a not-for-profit charitable organization.

The mandate of the Gallery is to “bring art to the community and the community to art” through the continuing operation and ongoing development of a Public Art Gallery.  Through the efforts of its volunteers and staff, the Gallery will achieve this mission by providing leadership and expertise in matters related to the visual arts; and by exhibiting historical and contemporary works of art from local to international sources; and by encouraging the development of artists with special emphasis on those residing in the City of Mississauga; and by organizing educational programmes to stimulate knowledge and interest in the visual arts; and by acquiring, managing and caring for a Permanent Collection.

The Gallery carries out its mandate in accordance with professional museum standards and practices set to North American standards.
