1986 – The New Credit Valley Hospital Opens

The picture shows construction of the new Credit Valley Hospital in 1984 at 2200 Eglinton Avenue West, just east of Erin Mills Parkway.

In 1979 the Credit Valley Hospital Volunteer Association was formed by an interested group of citizens from Streetsville, Erin Mills and Meadowvale. In January 1982 Mayor Hazel McCallion signed a promissory note on behalf of the citizens of Mississauga to raise $8.5 million towards construction of the hospital. In May of that year the Ministry of Health approved the sketch plans for the hospital and in July approved funding for construction. In October property for the site at Eglinton Avenue West and Erin Mills Parkway was acquired from Cadillac Fairview Ltd.

Construction of the hospital was completed in October 1985 and it was officially opened on July 17, 1986 by the Honourable Lincoln Alexander, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario.
